We are Geraci 7 on Mission, a family of seven sharing the Gospel in Toyama, Japan, a testimony that God can use anybody who is willing to serve, especially if they’re willing to work hard.
We both (Tony and Monica) came to saving faith in Jesus Christ in 2011 while in the midst of divorce. God not only saved our souls but also our marriage!
Immediately, we felt called to missions, but were initially ill-equipped to answer the call. While serving in many ministries through our sending church, Tony pursued his education at Bible college intermittently over nearly 10 years as our family grew from two children to five, occasionally taking breaks to support the growing family. Upon graduation, we had difficulty finding a missions organization willing to accept a family of our size, especially with older teenagers.
When an opportunity finally presented itself through God’s grace to move to Japan as missionaries in an unconventional way, we leapt at the chance! We are living on mission in Toyama, Japan, on the Sea of Japan. Our ministry here is as multifaceted and eclectic as our family of seven. We are committed to connecting with our community in every possible way, from traditional Church outreach events through our receiving Church, Trinity Church Toyama, to modern approaches via multiple social media platforms. We’re working on our fluency in Japanese, training our children in the language and culture, and using language exchange as an opportunity to witness. Many Japanese people struggle to learn English, so we volunteer regularly at English Cafe as an outreach to our community.
Having five children ranging from seven to seventeen allows us to connect with a broad spectrum of families in our community. They each take personal ownership of our family mission, truly embodying the spirit of living on mission. They’re sharing the Gospel at the playground, inviting children to church events, and praying for their peers.
Together, we are Geraci 7 on Mission for Jesus in one of the least evangelized areas of the world. We’re plowing rough ground, planting seeds, and sharing hope in what has long been considered a missionary graveyard. The need here is vast; less than one half of one percent of Japanese people know Jesus as their Lord (even fewer in Toyama). Where there is great need, there is great opportunity!
