Emily Wellham

Wycliffe Bible Translators Inc — Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire

My enthusiasm for Bible translation was first sparked in middle school by missionary biographies that introduced me to Bible poverty and Wycliffe's role in addressing this need. My life so far has shown me how God has wired me to build relationships through learning foreign languages, living abroad, and serving the church. Getting my Master's in Biblical exegesis and linguistics have reinforced my desire to share my access to so much knowledge about God with those who may not have even a single Bible verse in a language they can clearly understand.

I have moved to Côte d'Ivoire to work as a project facilitator for a translation team here. I am excited for the opportunity to use my skills in linguistics and translation to help make the Word of God clear, natural, and accurate in the context of another language and culture. Many of my teammates will be national translators, who are deeply invested in having God's Word in their own language.

Another part of this process involves raising teams of financial and prayer partners. While this is somewhat daunting, it is also deeply encouraging. I am not going alone, nor just with the support of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Each person who prays, gives, and reads my updates is coming along with me. I am so grateful for the people who have already joined my team, and I look forward to seeing who else God brings to partner with me.
