Huertas Family

We are the Huertas family.
Esteban is Panamanian, an electronics engineer, prepared for cross-cultural work at PAAM (missionary agency in Panama). Lidia is Costa Rican, a project manager, has crosscultural training from FEDEMEC (missionary agency in Costa Rica). On the field, we both work with Frontiers. We have two daughters, Sara, who was born in 2017 and Pilar who was born in 2021. As a family we have been living in Indonesia since 2019, a country that has become our home.
We lead the Luz de Esperanza team, an initiative focused on bringing the message and transformation among forgotten groups. Our team is united by a vision to bring the good news to at least 20 of the islands inhabited by a forgotten ethnic group (composed of about 60 islands).
This ethnic group has no church presence, believers or Bible translation. For many years it was not considered by mobilizers, intercessors or workers. All these islands are considered hard-to-reach regions, inhabited by a population of about 275,000 people distributed throughout the islands.
As a team, our work includes:
• Opening doors and establishing entry strategies in the small island complex for example:
• Establishing small businesses on the islands that will allow us to have a network of local workers (who are allowed to stay) and allow these workers to have the necessary livelihood to live with dignity. (We currently have a business with one worker on the largest island in the complex.)
• Recruit local workers to join the work through alliances with local movements.
• To give scholarships to young people on the smaller islands who wish to study at the university.
As a family we need new donors, every month we have a deficit in our budget and we need people and churches that want to become our donors, either monthly donors or donors for specific needs such as the rent of the house that is pre-paid every two years, the payment of our visas, the payment of our health insurance and ministerial expenses.
